Hawker Hind (Afghan)

 Hawker Hind (Afghan)

Period: Inter-War
Collection Ref: 69/A/104
Location: RAF Museum Cosford, War Planes

The Hind was a development of the Hart and was supplied to the Royal Air Force as an interim type to permit the formation of new bomber squadrons during the early expansion schemes prior to the outbreak of the Second World War.

First issued to front line squadrons at the end of 1935 it had been replaced by Battles and Blenheims barely three years later. After withdrawal from bomber duties Hinds remained in use as trainers and glider tugs.

The aircraft exhibited was presented to the RAF Museum by the Royal Afghan Air Force in 1968. Although it differs from British Hinds in certain details it is hoped that one day this aircraft can be returned to Royal Air Force colours.
