A jewel in the Museum's inventory is undoubtedly the Research and Development Collection featuring some of the World's most exotic aircraft; a very special collection indeed.

Avro 707c

Single engine, two seat delta wing research aircraft - the only two seater of the 707 family. Overall silver colour scheme with wing and fuselage roundels.

Type 188

Bristol Type 188

Twin engined stainless steel supersonic research monoplane. Incomplete - no engines. Overall polished metal with wing and fuselage roundels.

TSR 2

British Aircraft Corporation TSR 2

Twin engined tactical strike reconnaissance prototype monoplane. Overall white paint scheme with wing and fuselage roundels.

P1A

English Electric P1A

Twin jet engine swept wing high speed research monoplane with tricycle undercarriage.

FD2

Fairey FD2

Single engine delta winged research monoplane. Overall dark blue colour scheme with white cheat line; fuselage nose and wing roundels and fin flash.

Meteor F8 Prone Position

Gloster Meteor F8 Prone Position

Single engine prone pilot research monoplane modified from standard single seat, twin engined fighter variant by addition of lengthened nose section. Overall silver with wing and fuselage roundels.

Meteor F9/40

Gloster Meteor F9/40

Twin engine jet fighter prototype. Grey/brown upper surface camouflage with yellow under sides; wing and fuselage roundels; yellow 'P' prototype marking on fuselage.

Meteor T7

Gloster Meteor T7

Twin jet engine dual control monoplane trainer, modified for use as an ejection seat test vehicle-canopy removed from rear cockpit and cockpit structure strengthened.

Hunting H126

Single engine jet flap research monoplane; large rotund fuselage and prominent pilot's canopy. Overall yellow colour scheme with black anti-dazzle panel on upper nose. RAF wing and fuselage roundels and fin flash.

SR53

Saunders-Roe SR53

Rocket and jet powered research monoplane; tricycle undercarriage and wings with swept leading edge. Overall gloss white colour scheme with RAF wing and nose roundels, black anti-glare panel on nose.

Jaguar ACT Demonstrator

SEPECAT Jaguar ACT Demonstrator

Twin jet single seat high wing ground attack aircraft modified to demonstrate fly-by-wire /active control technology (ACT).

Short Brothers SB5

Single jet engine swept monoplane aerodynamic control test vehicle with tricycle undercarriage. Displayed complete with alternative tail section. Now displayed in black and silver colour scheme with wing and fuselage roundels and serial WG768.
