Funky Friday - A Game of two halves!

Location: Penn Fields School, Wolverhampton
Date: 8 May 2009

After studying 'The boy in the striped Pyjamas' by John Boyne Penn Fields School decided to spend a day divided in half using local postcodes for this division. The lower school remained together and enjoyed learning about evacuees, rationing and wartime recipes. The upper school were split (by a makeshift wall) into two halves - an Eastern and Western side. Those on the Western side enjoyed a fun filled morning kicked off by music, hot chocolate and toast! Those who were on the Eastern side sat in silence, bulled boots and had restricted access to the playground and the Western side of the school.

Throughout the day pupils across the school had the opportunity to dress in authentic uniforms, drama, singing, computer activities, cooking, take part in National Service activities and meet Arthur Jones a World War II veteran.

The finale resulted in the whole school sharing a celebratory assembly and the tearing down of the wall.

The entire day was enjoyed by all - staff and pupils alike.
