School trip to Cosford

12 December 2011

"On Wednesday 16 November we visited the Museum and took part in two Education workshops - WWII Evacuee Experience and Key Stage 2 Science. These are some comments made by the children from the visit:-

‘Best school trip ever!...In the evacuation workshop I had to sit at an old desk. The air raid siren went off and we all had to fit into the Anderson shelter. It was very dark an a bit of a squash’ Jack

‘I was very excited to see all of the aircraft’ Nathan

‘The workshops were great fun. I worked with Megan, we made a rocket out of paper and it had four wings and whilst in the air it did many ‘acrobatic skills’. We came fifth in the competition.’ Emily

‘I went to RAF Cosford Museum yesterday it was terrific, also the best school trip ever!!' Leo

‘I enjoyed trying on the clothes and gas masks from World War two. I would recommend this trip to another school because you learn a lot more’ Laura

‘Yesterday at Cosford was a really good day. We did a World War II day. We had to sign our ID cards and experiences what it felt like in an Anderson shelter with thirty people in it.’ James

‘We had a tube, paper and a nose cone. We had to make a rocket out of that. We were allowed to fire our rocket out of an air cannon and my rocket went the furthest.’ Harrison

‘The Cold War Exhibition was really unique because it had a mind blowing array of exciting exhibits’ Alexander

‘Our first activity was to make a paper rocket that would travel to the other end of the hangar. Ours came fourth because it hit one of the barriers! I learnt that the lighter the rocket the further it goes.’ Liam

‘I was very excited to see all of the WWII planes because they looked very interesting.' Chloe

‘Yesterday we went on our school trip to the Museum. I found the experience absolutely fantastic!' Helen

‘It was a once in a life time opportunity to go to a place with lots of amazing information about the World War Two era.’ Andrew "

Great day out

4 November 2011

"The museum experience is World class, unique and should not be missed. We will certainly visit again. However we will plan to visit the cafe between 10am & 11am after which breakfast session ends after just one hour of service and the choice of hot food is limited until the lunch time menu 12 midday.

Superb

10 October 2011

"Visited RAF Museum Cosford on Wednesday 5th October, wasn't sure what to expect.

Was grinning like a fool once I saw the large planes parked outside the place, but I was totally blown away by the vast array of planes on display.

The Cold War Exhibit in particular is stunning to say the least, I've seen Vulcan aircraft do fly-bys, but you don’t appreciate the size and scale of one until you stand under it as you can here.

Spoke to a couple of staff whilst there and both were only too happy to answer my questions and also to point out other things which I had missed.

Enjoyed the visit so much I returned the next day to make sure I hadn't missed anything.

Fantastic value, great place, will definitely be returning again."

Open Cockpit Evening

19 September 2011

"Had a fantastic time at the Open Cockpit Evening last Saturday.

The staff were really nice and very helpful. You can see the passion that they have in the aircraft they preserve.

I would like to thank the guys who were showing me the TSR 2 as they helped me with the cockpit layout for a model I am going to make.

Again I would like to thank all the staff for a great night.

Battle of Britain Weekend

11 September 2011

"Sat 10th Sep 11. A brilliant day out. The engine demonstrations gave the experience of the smells and noise of the Griffon and Merlin engines at close quarters. The many folk in period dress were full of information and were more than happy to chat.

My son really enjoyed the WWII equipment which was on show especially the Tommy Gun and the replica Spitfire.

The highlight for me was speaking to Tony Pickering and I thank him for his time.

Shame the good old British weather prevented the flypast!

Another fantastic visit to a truly great museum."
