British Military Aviation in 1989

20 July
In response to a question in the House of Commons, it is announced that the Royal Air Force's policy has been revised to permit female aircrew to be employed in all specialisations in non-combat roles.

It was not proposed at that stage that women should be accepted for the fast jet, support helicopter and maritime reconnaissance roles. However, the restriction on female aircrew flying support helicopters and maritime reconnaissance aircraft was lifted during 1991.
