Bader Braves

Bader Braves

Launched on the 10th February at R.A.F. Museum, Hendon, BADER BRAVES was created as a joint acknowledgement of Sir Douglas Bader′s honourary Chieftainship of a Canadian Indian Tribe and the bravery of children with limb deficiencies and other disabilities in their efforts to lead normal lives.

BADER BRAVES will support children with limb loss and other physical disabilities by offering unique experiences and improving life-skills to increase confidence. The Douglas Bader Foundation has always acknowledged the importance of the children′s families and carers and, in supporting the children, also aims to benefit those people involved in their lives.

BADER BRAVES will incorporate The Douglas Bader Foundation′s already proven Bader Flying/Young Aviators′ Days providing youngsters from 6-16 with limb deficiency and other disabilities with the opportunity of experiencing flight in a light aircraft.

Calvert Trust "Challenging disability through outdoor adventure" - Calvert Trust Kielder, Kielder Water, Hexham, Northumberland NE48 1BS

This is a wonderful opportunity for disabled youngsters and their families or carers to spend a weekend together enjoying all that Calvert Trust has to offer.

For the adventurous there will be a wealth of exciting activities to try out in a safe, caring and supportive environment with experienced staff always on hand to help. Those who prefer peace and quiet will find it in abundance in the beautiful surroundings; Kielder Water and Forest boasts the largest man made lake in Northern Europe and the biggest forest in England. You can explore this from an accessible Nature Trail that runs from the main centre towards Keilder Water passing the bird hide on the way. Amateur astronomers will also have a field day (or night) seeing the stars as they should be seen under the blackest night skies in England.

Designed around an old Northumbrian farmhouse in a 40-acre woodland site, the award winning accommodation and facilities are renowned and all fully accessible. There is a heated indoor swimming pool (warmer than normal pools) with a hoist and steps; an indoor games room suitable for lots of team activities; a lounge area with bar where you can relax in the evening and a Games Area with pool and table tennis tables and comfortable seating for the less energetic!
