Women of the Air Force

Women of the Air Force

It is 70 years since the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (the WAAF) was formed on 28th June 1939. To commemorate the formation of the WAAF but also to raise awareness of the contribution made by women serving in the air force from the First World War to the present day, a temporary exhibition "Women of the Air Force" is on display at the RAF Museum's London site until the end of the year. This podcast includes recordings made at the launch event with archive material relating to the important role played by women in the RAF.

Women of the Battle of Britain

Women of the Battle of Britain

Women didn't fly in combat in the Battle of Britain, but they ferried aircraft and ran the control system which ultimately resulted in victory. This podcast tells that story.

The Royal Air Force Museum Podcast Series will present a monthly podcast on a variety of subjects, examining in detail elements of the history of the Royal Air Force and our sites at London, Cosford and Stafford.
