RAF Museum 101 Walk : Day 5, The Big Finish

NS: Thankfully and for a change we managed to start the final day of the walk in bright sunshine!

Robin, Alan Coppin, Maggie and I left Coven at just before 8.00am ; it seemed that all sensible people were still safely in their beds at this time on a Sunday morning.

We were soon walking down quiet lanes and then passed by Chillington Hall. There was only one shortish painful patch when we walked through some nettles but other than that the going was good and we made fast progress.

As we approached the end we crossed the M54 and were amazed by the amount of traffic queuing to get into the show.

From left to right: Museum Ambassador Robin Southwell, with Sir Andy Pulford, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Nick Sanders, Trustee of the Museum, Maggie Appleton CEO of the Museum, and Robin Southwell former Trustee of the Museum. Maggie and Alan accompanied Nick and Robin for their final leg.

As we got closer to the gate we joined the rest of the crowds walking into the show and arrived bang on time at 10:55am.

We were greeted by a cadet guard of honour along with members of the museum team and the Chairman of the Trustees Sir Andy Pulford. It really was a great reception and lifted our spirits at the end of a long 101 mile walk.

We have received great support along the way so I think it is time for some thanks.

Firstly thanks to Claude and Lee who were our guides throughout the walk and who did a great job; we didn’t get lost once !

Then of course the incredible museum team who helped us set up the whole event and supported us along the way.

…and finally thanks to everyone who has sent us such great comments and supported us along the way and of course donated money towards the building of a children’s play area at Cosford.
Thanks again.

Over and out !

If you would like to support Nick and Robin in their aim of raising £101,000 for new children's facilities at Cosford now that they have successfully completed their walk, please make a donation at https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/support-us/become-a-member/101-walk.aspx
