Cold War Lunchtime Lecture - The English Electric Lightning

The lecture will be held at 12.30pm on 6 December 2019 at the Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford. Ewan Burnet, Film and Sound Curator at the RAF Museum, will present the final Cold War lunchtime lecture of 2019.

TALK OUTLINE

This Presentation looks at the divergence of fighter aircraft into day and night (or all-weather) sub-specialisations through the middle of the 20th Century.  It then goes on to examine the re-convergence of these sub-specialisations during the 1950s and 1960s, with particular reference to the English Electric Lightning as a coming-together and further development of technology and concepts.

ABOUT EWAN BURNET

Prior to joining the Museum as Assistant Curator of Film and Sound in 2008, Ewan worked at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. Ewan became Curator of Film and Sound at the RAF Museum in 2010. Ewan's role includes caring for the film and sound collection, cataloguing new material, recording of oral history interviews, processing enquiries from the general public, film and television producers and the preparation of audio-visual material for the museum’s exhibitions.

The Cold War Lunchtime Lectures at Cosford form a part of the RAF Museum’s Research Programme for 2019. This programme consists of the evening Trenchard Lectures in Air Power Studies — held in conjunction with the University of Wolverhampton and Royal Aeronautical Society in London — the First World War in the Air Lunchtime Lectures at our London site, and other events such as conferences. Please note that lectures are subject to change.
