The RAF Museum's Conservation Centre will be opening its doors to visitors this November for access to aircraft in our conservation hangar; part of the RAF100 celebrations.For one week only, visitors will be able to view progress behind-the-scenes being made on a range of aircraft, including the Handley Page Hampden where regular visitors will be in for a nice surprise, Vickers Wellington, Range Safety Launch which is another object that has made massive strides towards completion and the Westland Lysander which is the last chance to get a good look inside before the new Irish Linen is applied.Not only will visitors get the chance to view rare aircraft but the chance to speak to Museum Technicians, Apprentices and Volunteers who will be available throughout the week to speak with visitors about their work and answer any questions you may have on their current projects.
For people looking towards a career in aviation or engineering, come along a find out more about our award winning Apprenticeship scheme.
The Open Week will run 10.15am - 1.00pm
Admission is £5.00 per adult for the Open Week event (Children under 16 accompanied by an adult free)
Please note tickets can also be purchased on arrival from the Visitor Centre or at the Conservation Centre on the day.
Serving personnel are entitled to free admission on production of ID. During the week the Museum will also be offering Nimrod tours where visitors will be able to step on board the Nimrod XV249 and learn about its intelligence gathering role in the Royal Air Force. For more information please click here On Saturday 17 November there will be a afternoon talk where a number of speakers look back at the Glider Pilot Regiment and the RAF. This talk will be located in the National Cold War Exhibition and more information can be found here. Proceeds from the open week will also be an opportunity to raise vital funds for the RAF100 Appeal, which is a joint venture between the Royal Air Force and the four major RAF charities – the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the Royal Air Forces Association, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust and the Royal Air Force Museum. The aim of the Appeal is to raise money for the RAF family and to create a lasting legacy as we celebrate 100 years of the Royal Air Force in 2018.
