Letters Home Trail

30 November 2019 - 5 January 2020

Join us for Letters Home, this December

New for 2019! Join us between 30 November - 5 January 2020 for some festive fun and take part in our Letters Home Trail. All you need to do is find the items around the Museum that make up our letter. Once completed you will receive a delicious chocolatey prize.

This trail is inspired by the letters that were sent during the war from serving personnel. Women and Men serving in the Armed Forces over the Christmas holidays have always written home to family, friends and loved ones with great fondness. In their letters they talk of the Christmases they experience when they are deployed, some are sad others quite funny! We have used the letters in our archives as inspiration and created our own letter home. All you need to do is find the missing items around the Museum and fill them in.

‘Bluey’ Letters

You can even wish those serving abroad this festive season a very happy Christmas and post one of our special letters to serving RAF personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Falklands or Akrotiri for them to open in the New Year. Our ‘Bluey’ letter is inspired by the Force's air letters that used to be posted through the mail.

Just write, or even draw them a message and then pop it in our post box. The RAF Museum will then post them out to the bases abroad. This is a free activity and you do not need to purchase a trail to post a Bluey.

Tickets and times:

It’s £3.00 to take part and this will entitle you to one trail sheet and then one chocolate reward.
You can purchase your trail in the visitor centre from 10.00am until 3.00pm. Then when you have completed your letter head back to the Visitor Centre to collect your chocolate reward.

Useful information:

The trail is suitable for ages 5 and over, but with a little bit of help from grown-ups it can be suitable for younger children.
The trail will take you around our whole site, so be prepared to walk a little bit. It’s a great activity to do whilst your visiting the Museum.
Children should be accompanied at all times when taking part in the trial.
