Life Stories: Spitfire Girl

3 August 2019

RAF Stories Jackie Moggridge

‘Life Stories’ is a series of talks by guest speakers, who will share their own unique experiences from their time in the Royal Air Force.

Daughter of famous female spitfire pilot Jackie Moggridge, Candida Adkins, will share stories about her mother. After becoming the first woman to do a parachute jump in South Africa, Jackie travelled to England when the war broke out.

She joined the Air Transport Auxiliary where she flew 72 different types of aircraft and was given the Kings Commendation for valuable services in the Air.  She later joined the Women's Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, got her Wings and went on to fly commercially, as an airline captain.

Candida's talk is on Saturday 3 August at 2.00pm, places at the talk are free of charge.

‘Life Stories’ forms part of the RAF Museum's RAF Stories project. Launched as part of the Museum’s RAF Centenary Programme, RAF Stories is an online collection accessible to everyone to submit, share and explore stories of people’s personal connections to the RAF.

Further free Life Stories talks are scheduled at Cosford:

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - 31 August
From Basra to Sydney - 14 September
True Colours - 12 October
