New website cleared for take off !

After 9 months of redevelopment the Royal Air Force Museum officially launched its new website this morning at 9 am. With a fresh, open sky-scape design; a greater emphasis placed on rich content, such as video and podcasts; and much more intuitive navigation, the new website allows online visitors to interact rapidly with the Museum’s full collection before visiting the London and Cosford sites.
New features incorporated into the website include a rolling podcast series that will be linked directly to various aircraft within the Museum’s collection; virtual tours of signature aircraft within the Museum collection; galleries containing behind the scenes glimpses of major openings and unveilings at both museum’s sites; plus the ability for online visitors to pin pages of interest, comment directly on the Museum’s collection and ‘like’ their favourite aircraft and artefacts.
Paul Hudson Head of Marketing at the Royal Air Force Museum states:
‘Whilst our previous website was highly rated amongst our online visitors, the Museum is committed to constantly improving and innovating to make our collection as accessible as possible to all our audiences – particularly those individuals who may only be able to access our collections on-line. To help make what was an already well received website even better we appointed web specialists Itineris. With their help and dedication I believe that the Museum now possesses a website that reflects the vibrancy, energy and diversity of the Museum’s collections and which will inspire people to explore our collections even further.’

The execution of the website was extremely important; the number of web visitors is known to have a direct link to the amount of footfall through the Museum so we needed to create a window into the organisation to entice visitors through its doors. The result was a visually stunning and content rich website, enabling visitors to access up-to-the minute information about the Museum and its activities. The Royal Air Force Museum sites at both London and Cosford are opening daily from 10am to 6pm, with last admission being at 5.30pm for the Museum’s London site and 5.00 pm for the Museum’s Cosford site. Admission to the museum is free of charge.
