The Historic Hendon Graphic Novel by BA (Hons) Illustration Students, Middlesex University, 2017–2018

The Historic Hendon project brings the amazing stories of the RAF Museum's historic site to life. Here ten students from the Middlesex University BA (Hons) Illustration course have created a collection of short stories which explore events on and around our site from 1910 to the present day.

The stories take us from the grassed airfield of the London Aerodrome, through the years of RAF Hendon, to the current day Grahame Park housing estate and the RAF Museum.

To navigate the stories, please click on the period that interests you. This will take you to a page showing the site as it looked at that time. As the clouds move across the page, the story appears. The stories are not arranged into traditional panels as you would find on the printed page. Explore the story by scrolling in the direction the images move, using your thumb on a smart device or your mouse on a desktop computer.

To read another story return to the main page and click another date.

The Historic Hendon project is kindly supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, John Lyons Charity and BAE Systems.
