Two of our visitors enjoying an Afternoon Cream TeaWhat could be more quintessentially British than enjoying a relaxing Afternoon Cream Tea as part of your visit to the Royal Air Force Museum?

Enjoy a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches and dainty bite-sized cakes, including home-made scones served with fresh clotted cream and jam, all perfectly accompanied by your choice of one of our delicately flavoured teas or infusions. Toast the occasion by upgrading to a sparkling glass of crisp, chilled prosecco (minimum of 4 guests, less than 4 will incur an additional charge).

Your Afternoon Cream Tea will be served to you on a fine china tea-set that recalls the hey-day of the London Aerodrome, where our London Museum is currently located. One of the more curious elements of our tea-set is its split teapot, the design of which was inspired by a Handicap Air Race that took place at our site on 18 October 1913 – a guaranteed talking point as you savour your treats.

Our Split Tea Pot

The race finished in a dead heat and the judges were unable to decide the winner. So, they divided the winning silver cup between two leading participants, Claude Grahame-White and Walter Block, by splitting it down the middle. Claude’s Grahame-White’s half of the cup can be viewed as you enter our First World War in the Air exhibition in Hangar 2.
