air transport auxiliary,women,ATA,
I’ve committed to lead a walk of 101 miles to raise money for the RAF Museum – a cause for which I am a Trustee. Those of you that have been to our sites in North London or Cosford will know why I give my time so willingly.
I’d like to ask you to commit to support me by donating to a very special project, specifically to benefit some of the Cosford site’s younger visitors. Our redevelopment plans at Cosford are significant – but, in an apt analogy, all journeys start with a single step. For us, this is the creation and installation of a state of the art and educational playground to cater for our significant number of younger visitors.
We have been busy; 2018 marked the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force and to coincide with this major milestone the RAF Museum delivered a significant upgrade programme at its London site. As the RAF moves into its second centenary, we now embark on a new, ambitious programme of further development to ensure that we can continue to champion the inspiring story of the RAF past, present and future.
Our walk will start at RAF Cranwell on the 5 June 2019, where we will be sent on our way by some of the RAF’s newest recruits. We will finish at the RAF Cosford Air Show on the 9 June 2019. Our walk will take us across Lincolnshire, south of Nottingham and Derby, then across Staffordshire – and we’re aiming to cover around 25 miles a day.
Those of you who know us will be all too aware that none of us are in the first flush of youth(!) so this will be quite a challenge! We will be accompanied by members of the Museum and other well-wishers who will hopefully keep us going as the legs get heavy and the blisters are really hurting.
Please do get in touch if you’d like to join us for a leg.
