Holiday Activities Volunteers

If you are looking for an opportunity to engage with a wide range of people, doing something practical, then this could be the role for you. 

These events run at various times throughout the year primarily on weekends or during school holidays. Activities include leading ‘make and take’ craft sessions to supporting our larger events such as the Cosford Food Festival. 

We welcome applications from people of all abilities, backgrounds and communities. 

The type of tasks undertaken by an Activities & Events volunteer will include:

  • Helping the Events Manager to organise and prepare for the event
  • Supporting the Events Manager to facilitate and supervise hands-on creative events with families
  • Setting up and clearing away for family events
We are looking for volunteers who:
  • are reliable, friendly and enthusiastic
  • have good communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children
  • work well in a team
  • help people get the best out of an experience and encourage others to take part
  • provide a friendly welcome to all
  • are able to work in a busy, public space, sometimes with minimal supervision and share skills and knowledge
  • over 18 years of age
  • Travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with our policy

Explainer

The Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford is looking to recruit to it’s explainers role. The explainers team support the museum’s Fun’n’Flight interactive area, where explainers are regularly called upon to clarify the various experiments in the area and how they relate to the theory of flight. New volunteers will join a passionate team of volunteers, dedicated to making science and engineering fun for our visitors. Key to this role is the support of school visits as organised by the museum’s Access and Learning Department.

You will:

  • Join a team of people devoted to telling the RAF Story through its people and collections.
  • Be the point of contact between the museum and our visitors in the Fun’n’Flight area.
  • Ensure all procedures are followed
  • Engage with our visitors to explain displays and how they relate to the theory of flight.
  • Support Museum Staff by lending assistance during times of emergency.    

You will be:
Applicants should be/have:

  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Have experience working with young people or children
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Physically able to move around the fun’n’flight space for long periods of time
  • able to follow instructions carefully
  • proactive in approaching and welcoming people
  • able to be polite and assertive with others
  • able to work on your initiative and as a team
  • confident in your own ability and knowledge
  • comfortable to work in a busy space that at times can feel crowded
  • punctual and reliable
