The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Cosford. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future – using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Our overall vision is to inspire everyone with the RAF story – the people who shape it and its place in our lives.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Financial and Management Accountant – Projects to work closely with the Head of Finance to deliver finance projects to enhance ways of working, and to provide expert financial support for the Museum’s major capital projects. You will be joining the Museum team at an exciting time as we progress our Strategy 2030 including the delivery of major programmes for both our sites across the next ten years to enhance our visitor experience, improve our facilities, and help us inspire everyone with the RAF story.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable business acumen and understand the importance of analysis and performance reporting to support business effectiveness and an agile approach. The role-holder will oversee the delivery of key finance projects working closely with senior managers across the Museum and its trading subsidiary. You will work with the Finance team to identify opportunities to improve our accounting systems and budget management tools, to facilitate confident, value for money budget management and maximise opportunities for income generation.
The successful candidate will be a qualified or part-qualified management accountant with demonstrable experience of project accounting. You will have a commercial approach and the ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with non-finance heads of departments. You will be experienced in working to deadlines and have an attention for detail required to produce relevant reports that support business decisions. Proficiency in Excel is essential, particularly data modelling and report creation. Experience of Sage200 accounting software is desirable. Museum or not-for-profit experience would be beneficial but is not required.
