The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future – using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Our vision is to inspire everyone with the RAF story – the people who shape it and its place in our lives.
The RAF Museum is looking for an experienced Head of Estates to join the team at an exciting time to support delivery of our Strategy 2030 including our recently launched £26M RAF Museum Midlands Development Programme in addition to major London projects which will enhance our visitor experience, improve our facilities and environmental impact, and help us inspire everyone with the RAF story.
The Head of Estates is a key role with the senior management group, leading the management and maintenance of the RAF Museum’s estate at both public sites, London and Midlands (as well as our storage facilities). You will ensure the care, welfare and development of buildings, land, plant and services to support the effective operations of the Museum and its commercial enterprises, both front and back of house. You will both lead and support delivery of major projects to budget, defined deadlines and to the highest quality standards. You will be a passionate advocate of environmental sustainability, leading on the delivery of the Museum’s Sustainability Commitment to operate as Carbon Net Zero by 2030 across all our activities.
You will be professionally qualified either as a Chartered Surveyor, Building Services Engineer or Facilities Manager, with significant relevant experience in building construction, maintenance, management, refurbishment, health and safety considerations and M&E building services, demonstrating consistently high standards of delivery.
Ideally, the role-holder will have experience in the heritage or cultural sector. The post will be based at our London site, but the post holder will be required to travel to our Midlands site on a regular basis.
