The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future – using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Our Vision is to inspire everyone with the RAF story – the people who shape it and its place in our lives.
We have two public sites (London and Midlands) and a stored collection (Stafford). Our trading company and active fundraising supplement Grant in Aid which comes through the Ministry of Defence.
We are pleased to announce a fantastic opportunity to join our dynamic Events Team. We are looking for an experienced event programmer and event professional to deliver exciting and popular events at the Midlands site.
The Public Events programme is a key component of the RAF Museum’s public engagement and commercial strategies, and through the programme we tell the RAF story, engage with our visitors, widen our audience and help to support self-funded income. The Public Events Manager role is key to helping deliver the aims and objectives of the Museum.
The main responsibilities of the role include designing, planning, budgeting and delivering events for our family audiences, managing both a regular programme of daytime events as well as creating new events where required. Events currently within the programme include themed weeks – including Spies Week and STEM week, the summer programme ‘Flying Theatre’, Spitfire 10K, Elf Cadets and our annual community day.
The ideal candidate should be an experienced event professional with a lot of initiative who can create and operate events that are exciting, compelling, safe and competitive. You should have the capacity to build positive relationships with both internal teams and external partners, and demonstrate excellent organisational skills.
The post holder will be required to work weekends, early mornings, evenings and occasionally overnight as necessary.
The post will be based at our Midlands site. Travel between the Museum’s sites will be required from time to time.
