Since launching The Crate Escape fundraising appeal at our Big Lift Off event in May, over £27,000 has been raised so far thanks to everyone who has already sponsored a box!
Your support is helping us prepare for the monumental task of moving more than 50,000 objects from our offsite storage facility at MOD Stafford to a new purpose-built Collections Hub at the RAF Museum Midlands, where these incredible stories and objects will become accessible to the public for the very first time.

Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers have been busy preparing for the move. So far:
- 28,662 items have been condition checked
- 11,681 items passed through the cleaning process
- 5,398 items wrapped and packed
- 3,782 volunteer hours contributed
But we still have a long way to go! You can play a vital part and help make this historic move possible by sponsoring a box from just £30. Find out more about The Crate Escape here.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the launch, donated, sponsored a box, spread the word, or volunteered their time. Your generosity is helping us bring these remarkable RAF stories to life.
The Crate Escape fundraising appeal supports the Museum’s Inspiring Everyone: RAF Museum Midlands Development Programme, made possible with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
This major transformation will deliver a new exhibition, Learning Centre, Collections Hub, improved green spaces, opening in summer 2027, supported by outreach programmes to connect more communities across the Midlands with the RAF story.
