Donate an artefact

Acquiring new artefacts for the collections is a process and governed by the Museum’s Collections Development Policy. The Museum is fortunate to have been collecting artefacts for over 50 years and factors such as the condition of an item or what is known about an artefact can determine whether the Museum accepts items or not.

If you would like to offer to donate an artefact or collection of papers to the Museum, please start the acquisition process by completing and submitting the form.

Receipt of the form will be acknowledged within five working days. All acquisition offers are considered, and a member of the curatorial team will be in touch within 20 working days to discuss the offer. Further discussion will take place at the Museum’s Acquisitions and Transfers Group which will meet monthly. In some cases, senior leadership may also need to be consulted.

Due to this process the Museum is unable to provide decisions immediately. Please be aware that it can take a minimum of 8-10 weeks for the Museum to consider donation offers.

Once you have submitted the form, if you need to discuss your offer please email collections.donations@rafmuseum.org in the first instance.

We do not accept items which have been sent or brought to the Museum. The Museum reserves the right to dispose of unsolicited items of this kind.

Thank you for supporting the Royal Air Force Museum.
