Summer of free family fun at the RAF Museum Midlands

9 July 2026

Families looking for an affordable day out this summer can enjoy free experiences at the RAF Museum Midlands, everything from aircraft access, Airfix model making, a parachute display, and discounts on kid’s meals, helping families make lasting memories without stretching the budget.

In addition to the Museum already offering free admission, families will have the rare opportunity to step onboard two iconic RAF aircraft at no extra cost. Climb inside the legendary Nimrod, the RAF’s secret ‘spy in the sky’, which played a vital intelligence gathering role, and explore the impressive VC10, used for air-to-air refuelling and transport missions. Both aircraft will be open to visitors from 20 – 24 July between 10.30am and 3.30pm. Keep an eye on the Museum’s website and social media for additional aircraft opening dates.

Younger visitors can also enjoy a free Airfix Spitfire model making activity where they will build and paint their own Spitfire to take home. All materials for this hands-on activity, including Airfix kits, paints and glue, will be provided free of charge. Airfix model making sessions will take place Monday to Friday throughout the summer holidays, from 12.30pm to 2.00pm, with 20 places available per session. Advance booking is recommended to guarantee a place.

Receive the discount on every kid’s meal purchased, there’s a tasty range on offer, with gluten-free and vegan options available. The offer runs daily throughout the summer break from 12.00pm to 3.00pm.

After enjoying the free experiences on offer and exploring the Museum’s fascinating aircraft collection, including the world’s oldest Spitfire, younger members of the family will enjoy playing in the outdoor RAF themed playground with a mock control tower, mini hangar and aircraft to climb onboard.
