KS3 Glider Challenge 2021

The RAF Museum are proud to host the KS3 Glider Challenge 2021. This year, we are hosting two events – a challenge onsite at the Museum and an online virtual challenge for those schools that cannot visit us. Sponsored by the RAF Youth and STEM  Team, we are inviting schools to enter teams into either event.

The onsite challenge will be held at the RAF Museum Cosford, Shropshire on Wednesday 10 November 2021, with winners announced on the day.

The virtual challenge will be live streamed on Thursday 18 November 2021, with teams having until Wednesday 24 November 2021 to submit their evidence for judging.

All schools involved are sent a 4-week lesson plan to be covered in lessons prior to the event – this lesson plan can be adapted in any which way to suit your school needs. Entrants will also receive a FREE resource pack which includes the materials needed to get you started.

The competition will include a research and design element, as well as a poster and presentation pitch which outlines why the team has chosen their glider design and why they think it should win. Prizes will be awarded across both events for the winners of each category.

In light of government guidance, if the onsite event cannot go ahead, we will assume teams would like to enter the virtual challenge instead.

To register, please fill out the booking form and send it to us via email at learning-cosford@rafmuseum.org

Online workshops will be held via Microsoft Teams Live Stream (please note: you do NOT need a Microsoft Teams account to watch a live stream). Upon confirming your booking, you will be sent a link to the live stream as well as relevant downloadable resources. Minimal tech skills are required for you to attend, but please ask for our handy guide if you are struggling.

Our live streams are safeguarded with participating classes only able to see us as the presenter – there is no way for anyone else to see participants. When using the Q&A feature on the live stream, we will only publish questions that are anonymous if we have more than one school participating.
