Visit our reading room

PLEASE NOTE: This is only available at our London site.

Our Reading Room offers visitors the opportunity to see and access stored collection items up close.

It is located in Hangar 3/4/5 at our London site on the second floor.

We are open Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am-4pm.

To book a visit please see below:

Email the Archive, Library and Research team at least 5 working days before your visit, at readingroom@rafmuseum.org

Please include the following details:

  • Full name
  • Additional names/number of visitors if a group
  • Two preferred visit dates
  • Estimated arrival time
  • Focus of your research/what you’d like to achieve with your visit
  • A prioritised list of documents you wish to consult (up to 10 items, including reference numbers if known). To enable this you may wish to visit our online inventory which can be found here: https://collections.rafmuseum.org.uk/collection/search/all/
  • Any access requirements or additional needs – This information is only used to ensure that you get the most out of your visit and are supported appropriately.

(We have space for wheelchairs and mobility aids in the Reading Room but knowledge about these beforehand will be useful in ensuring we can set up the space appropriately for you.)

Please note: items must be pre-ordered in advance to ensure availability.
