VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering remotely

Contribute, Connect, CreateVolunteer Marshall at our annual Spitfire 10k run

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, giving their time to help us fulfil our vision of inspiring everyone with the RAF Story - the people who shape it and its place in our lives.

We hope that our volunteer roles open up opportunities to:

Contribute skills, time and enthusiasm;

Connect with a diverse group of people as part of the RAF Museum family;

Create meaningful experiences for our visitors and volunteers alike.

We believe in volunteers and paid staff working as one team. The range of skills, experience and expertise volunteers bring makes us stronger as an organisation. Would you like to join the team?

What do volunteers at the RAF Museum do?

Volunteers are involved in a wide spread of roles across the Museum, including front-of-house and behind-the-scenes roles. Whether you fancy conserving or archiving, sewing or supporting events, engineering or engaging visitors, making videos or adding the subtitles, there is bound to be something for you!

Where?

Volunteering opportunities take place at both of our sites in Cosford and London, as well as in local communities and from your own home.

How often?

Some of our volunteering opportunities ask for a regular commitment. Other roles are flexible or on a more ad hoc basis. Whether you are able to volunteer often or occasionally, we would love for you to be involved.

No! Most of our roles ask only for an eagerness to learn. Where a role requires specialist knowledge or skills, this will be clear on the advert, but for most roles, any training needed will be provided.

What information will I have to provide?

Contact details and a small amount on your skills, experience and motivations. Few of our roles require a DBS check, and this will be specified on the advert. We do ask about criminal convictions, but having a record does not necessarily mean you won’t be able to volunteer.Our Access Advisory Group volunteers see the improvements they suggested come to fruition

We aim to make our volunteer roles as accessible as possible, but this will vary from role to role. Do get in touch if you would like to discuss this with us, by emailing volunteering@rafmuseum.org.

Sounds good, how do I sign up?
