The Historic Aircraft Association Symposium begins the countdown to their flagship annual event at the RAF Museum London on Saturday 11th October.
There is a fantastic line up for this full-day event with five presentations across a range of subjects, but particularly with an eye on contemporary happenings in the historic aircraft world. The event will celebrate the Gnat’s 70th year, with an operator’s experience of maintaining this historic Jet, and comparing it with the Hawk, as experienced during his time with the Red Arrows.
The rapidly -progressing Swordfish restoration makes for an enthralling account, from a derelict hulk in the tobacco fields of Ontario, to an immaculate restoration, soon to be the UK’s third flying Stringbag. The owner will join the event, to explain his obsession, and bring us right up to date with progress.
The Battle of Palembang was the the greatest FAA engagement of WW2, and we look forward to a gripping account of the airborne carrier force, and the series of air attacks directed at Japanese-held oil refineries near Palembang on Sumatra.
The team from the People’s Mosquito will present an update on the progress of their restoration/rebuild project, which continues to make great advances, in their quest to bring the UK its first flying example in 30 years.
The HAA can confirm that they will be joined by John Romain who will describe his extensive involvement in the filming of Mission Impossible, and how they put together the remarkable aerial sequences, with Tom Cruise in the thick of the action!
The price will include an excellent sit-down two course lunch. You do not need to be an HAA member to attend, everyone with an interest in historic aviation is welcome.
