13 August 2022

NEW for 2022! Celebrate the summer at the Battle of Britain Proms!

Enjoy a colourful mixture of musical entertainment – from classical to pop, opera to swing and celebrate the summer in a unique outdoor setting with a backdrop of aircraft and historic hangars!

The RAF Museum has partnered up with Fizz Festivals for this new event! Join us on Saturday 13 August 2022 for a festival of music, food and fizz, featuring some of the best talent across the country, supported by local acts. Hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Paul Shuttleworth, we will be bringing you an afternoon and evening filled with 6 hours of music and entertainment. A variety of solo performers and bands will entertain the audience and encourage to dance and sing along. An orchestra will provide a rousing finale to the event leading the audience through all the Last Night of the Proms favourites.

Lay out a picnic blanket, or set the scene with table, chairs, and of course union jack bunting and hand waving flags!

We are excited to announce a great line up of artists and performers.

These four stunning sopranos bring you a collection of re-worked operatic arias, chart-topping hits and musical theatre favourites. Hailed as a ‘supergroup’ by Musical Theatre Review, Ida released their critically acclaimed album, ‘Believe’ in 2018, achieving success in the Official Classical Charts. After performing for Prince Edward at Windsor Castle, on the West End and alongside Hollywood stars, Ida will entertain and mesmerise the audience at the Battle of Britain Proms.

Charlie Green

Charlie Green was catapulted into the limelight at just ten year’s old, when he wowed the Britain’s Got Talent judges with his rendition of a Sinatra song. Over the past 12 years Charlie has toured in numerous countries, including Italy, China, Japan, The Philippines and Canada. Charlie spend more than 3 years touring the USA & UK with The Osmonds and Jimmy Osmond who became Charlie’s manager and mentor. Charlie Green will wow the audience at the Battle of Britain proms with his unique voice and his own interpretations of popular swing, jazz and pop classics.

String Infusion

String Infusion are a vibrant electric-acoustic all female string ensemble covering a range of music genres. The ability to perform on both acoustic and electric instruments provides the group with the opportunity to perform a truly diverse repertoire which ranges from some of the most well-known and well-loved classical pieces right through to Abba, ACDC, Coldplay, Take That and Oasis. Their strings have reverberated around the O2 Arena, shook the walls of the X-Factor studio and harmonised with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and will captivate the audience at the Battle of Britain Proms in August!

Lymm Concert Band

Lymm Concert Band can trace its heritage back to the local brass bands of the early 1900s. The modern incarnation of the band has developed over the past 25 years and continues to go from strength to strength, under the Musical Directorship of Darren Wood. The band’s repertoire includes a huge variety of classics and popular songs from film, theatre and concert band music, anything from John Williams Blockbusters to Mamma Mia and the Atlantic Overture. The Lymm Concert Band will perform to the highest standards and will infect the audience at the Battle of Britain proms with their enthusiasm and passion for music.

The Ronnies

The Ronnies are a vocal harmony group from Shropshire, specialising in the sounds of the 1940s. Inspired by the great Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters, The Ronnies perform classic songs such as; In the Mood, Route 66, Don’t Fence Me In and Accentuate the Positive at events all over the country. The Ronnies will bring the sound of the 1940s to the Battle of Britain Proms.

Our hosts: Ryan Kendy and Paul Shuttleworth

Ryan Kennedy will kick off the event in the afternoon and welcome our performers on stage. He will hand over to Paul Shuttleworth who will lead the audience through the evening. Ryan and Paul have been broadcasting for BBC Radio Shropshire for years and are the ideal pair to present our great line up of musicians and performers.

What else is on?

On the ground…

There is plenty more to do for our visitors. Why not test your own musical talent. The Rig is an interactive installation combining percussion, musical exploration, creativity and adventure. Designed by professional musicians and artists, and built from up-cycled objects turned into instruments and sound experiments, young an old  can get creative with music.

Creativity is also required in our crafts area where our youngest visitors can create their own masterpieces and take them home. The heat is on – with our unique engine display and demonstration, including two of the most iconic Battle of Britain engines, the Merlin XX and the Bristol Hercules Mk216 engine. Both engines were used in many bombers during WWII and have been carefully restored by their owners. It’s truly a spectacle to see and hear them running!

In the sky…

Visitors will have to look up to the sky for our fantastic air display. The iconic Supermarine Spitfire, critical in defeating Luftwaffe air attacks in 1940, will fly over our heads to celebrate and commemorate servicemen and women who fought in the Battle of Britain.
