Although widely identified in the public’s mind as a fire fighting appliance, this is actually a Civil Defence mobile pump unit. The design concept was based on fire-fighting in the aftermath of nuclear attack with the appliances operating as part of Mobile Fire Columns responding to emergencies in any part of the country and in any terrain.
