Best Wishes, Frankie, for tomorrow’s London Marathon

Published on: 1 October 2022

We would like to thank Flt Lt Frances Dawson (Frankie) who is running tomorrow in support of the RAF Museum in the TCS London Marathon.

She very bravely took on the challenge when her RAF colleague, who had originally received the place, was injured.

Frankie will run the 26.2 miles across London with thousands of others in the hope of raising £2,000 for the RAF Museum. If you would like to help her reach her target her donation page is: https://tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/frances-dawson

No donation is too small to make a difference; your support will help the RAF Museum to share some of the most remarkable stories from our Royal Air Force. We can’t do it without your help!

Flt Lt Frankie Dawson£2: is all it costs to pay for the resources for one child to attend a Museum workshop. Every year the Museum’s Access and Learning team welcome over 60,000 learnings and deliver an incredible 1,400 workshops to over 400 different schools!

£5: would purchase a box of nitrile gloves to protect an object from the oil and dirt of a conservator’s hands when being handled.

£10: will buy vital protective equipment for the Museum’s Collections team to protect their objects when being handled.

£15: is enough to re-bind a book in our library, ensuring they are kept for future generations.

£20: would cover the costs for the inner tube of a First World War Sopwith Pup tyre.

A message from Frankie:

My name is Frankie Dawson and I’m a Flt Lt in the Royal Air Force. I currently work at the Airspace warfare school at RAF Cranwell overseeing all Air/Space training.

I love skiing and rugby, and long distance running is certainly not my forte, but I was given the opportunity to take part to replace one of our Pilots who took an injury whilst playing for the RAF rugby team. I’m sure this is going to be incredibly painful, but I’m happy to do what I can to support our RAF Museum.

The Museum is a charity, and they need our help to enable them to keep sharing the RAF story, the stories of the people who shape it, and its place in our lives, but a story is only powerful if it is heard.

Your support really matters, now even more so. By donating to my page, you will be helping to keep the Museum flying. With your support the Museum will be able to continue to curate new exhibitions, improve facilities, protect and research their collection of over 1.3 million objects, deliver their learning and apprenticeship programmes as well as acquiring new items to preserve for the nation.

Frankie has had just 6 weeks to prep for this weekend! But she did her last prep run on Tuesday (just a little 18 miler) and is looking forward to the challenge.

If you are watching the Marathon tomorrow look out for the RAF Museum T-shirt and please cheer her on.

Once again, we would like to thank her for all her efforts on our behalf.
