Sir Arthur ‘Bomber’ Harris

Marshal of the RAF, Sir Arthur ‘Bomber’ Harris was Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of RAF Bomber Command from early 1943.

As part of the Museum’s collection, we look after many of the items that Bomber Harris stored in his house that made up his ‘Bomber Command Museum’ as well as personal papers and documents – one of which is the Message of Congratulation from Harris to 617 Squadron at RAF Scampton.

Bomber Harris would certainly have been a member of the Museum. He left the Museum a lot of this collection of personal items because he felt that they were an important part of RAF history and took time out of his schedule to regularly visit RAF cadets and organisations that supported Bomber Command and its veterans.
