Lunchtime Lecture (London): Drones and Missiles: The Changing Nature and Economics of Air Power

23 May 2024

On Thursday 23rd May 2024 at 12pm, Amit Gupta will present a talk on the changing nature and economics of air power. This talk will be hosted in-person at the RAF Museum’s London site and virtually via Crowdcast.

Talk Outline
The war in Ukraine has demonstrated that there is a new type of air war emerging and it is one that is being rapidly adopted by armed forces and nonstate actors around the world. In this warfare, large expensive aircraft, while still needed, are at the tactical level being replaced by drones and missiles. This has given greater flexibility armies, reduced some of the problems demanding jointness of forces, and has revolutionized the way forces fight. Additionally, it has created a global industry for drones and tactical missiles as well as the tools to counter them. This lecture would examine these issues as well as the future implications for armed forces.
Location
This hybrid lecture will be hosted in-person at the RAF Museum’s London site in the Lecture Theatre. Attendance in-person is free but registration is required via Digitickets.
Livestream
To attend virtually, register via Crowdcast.
