The run will take you around the edge of the historic London Aerodrome that once existed in Colindale. This is a road race so you will be running along pathways and the streets that follow the old airfield. The race will start on the Museum's green space, where you will run around our ‘taxiway’ that evokes the historic RAF Hendon Base, then exit the Museum by running past our Spitfire Gate Guardian. Once you’ve completed two laps you will run back into the Museum past the Spitfire, through Hangar 1 and under the beautiful Short Sunderland Flying boat, before crossing the finish line. At the end of the race you will be awarded with the highly sought-after Spitfire 10K medal.
The Spitfire 10K is held to commemorate the Battle of Britain and all the men and women who defended Britain’s skies during the summer of 1940. This is why all our runners wear the name of a Battle of Britain pilot with their race number so that we may share further the story of those Royal Air Force personnel who served in this pivotal aerial campaign with a new generation.
2019 Spitfire Technical t-shirts and NEW for 2019, Running Vests, can also be purchased for £10.00 when you book your Spitfire 10K entry and will be available for collection on the day.
Please click here to purchase one of our T-shirts / VestsEntry to the Museum is free of charge and runners, spectators and supporters are encouraged to explore the site on race day.
The Spitfire Family Run will also be back in 2019. This gentle 1K run will take place around the Museum site. Each registered runner will receive a special Spitfire medal when they cross the finish line. The race is suitable for all ages, but children under 11 years must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that only paying participants will be awarded a medal at the finish line.
Standard entry fee: £22.50* Discounted entry fee: £20.50* (Members of UK Athletics affiliated clubs and Armed Forces Personnel will be asked to enter details to receive the discount) All runners to be 15 years and older. Held under UK Athletic Rules. UKA Licence applied for.
Standard entry (all ages): £5* (this includes a medal)
*Please note that a £1.90 booking fee is applicable when booking entry to the Spitfire 10K race online, a discounted booking fee of £1.30 will be applied to the Spitfire Family Run.
The money raised from the Spitfire races helps the RAF Museum to share inspiring Royal Air Force stories, and preserve our collections for future generations. You have the chance to support us even further and fundraise for the RAF Museum.
Please download the Spitfire 10K 2019 Fundraising pack for further information on how to raise money for the Spitfire 10K and help ensure the story of the RAF is told for future generations.
The Spitfire 10K will take place at 10.00am, the Spitfire Family Race at 9.15am, on Saturday 31 August. The site will open at 8.00am to give you chance to collect your t-shirt, warm up and maybe even explore some of the Museum before it gets too busy. On site facilities include: toilets, disabled parking, bag drop for runners, two Cafés and our Museum Shop (all of which will be open early at 8.00am).
We are only a short walk from Colindale tube, so why not arrive by public transport? We have limited parking at our London site, so we will be asking runners to register their number plate if you would like to drive, we will send an email out about this closer to the day.
For more information and advice on planning your visit click here.
Why not do something different and do the Spitfire 10K in 1940s dress? Don your victory curls or flying jacket and run this event in style! Need some ideas for your outfit? Here's a few from last year:
If very loud is the answer to that question then come and cheer our runners on as a Spitfire 10K marshal. Come as a group or with a friend, this is a great one-off volunteering opportunity.
We are seeking volunteers to support and marshal our runners on their 10K run. If you are part of a running club and can get 10 people to marshal with you, then we will give your club two free spaces on the Spitfire 10K in 2019.
You will need to arrive on site at 8.00am and make your own way to your marshal point, once the race has finished you can make your way back to the Museum. No experience is necessary you just have to be helpful and friendly.
If you are interested then register with us here and we will be in touch with more information very shortly.
If you have a questions related to the site and what will happen on the day please contact the Events Manager by calling 020 8358 4972 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org If you have a questions related to the Race please contact the Race Management Company by email, email@example.com.
