Introduction

The nameplates are brass with raised letters on a pale sky-blue background, each with the wording Battle of Britain Class in smaller lettering at the base; badges were vitreous enamelled within a gunmetal surround, with the appropriate badge or crest again on an air force blue background.

They are mostly in unrestored ‘ex loco’ condition. On air-smoothed casing engines the nameplate was applied above the badge, with the badge above the nameplate mounted on the running plate of rebuilt locos. Where no specific crest was available, such as with Croydon and Hurricane, the Arms of the Royal Air Force were used.

Please note: The nameplates are not presently on public view unless otherwise stated.
