Group Captain Conrad Verity’s Memoirs

Group Captain Conrad Verity worked in an Air Ministry intelligence branch responsible for gathering information on possible targets. In October 1942 he was visited by Barnes Wallis. The following extract from Verity’s memoirs describes the meeting;

‘…there came into my office a tall man with grey hair and a charming smile who shook me warmly by the hand as he introduced himself…he asked me to obtain for him a lot of information – geographic, engineering and economic – about the various large dams in Germany’.

It was during this meeting that Wallis produced this sketch to demonstrate the operation of the ‘bouncing bomb’.
