Aerial photography saved Alan Cobham from an ordinary life on the ground away from his first love, aviation.

He returned to flying through a job with the Aerial Photography Department in the Aircraft Manufacturing Company (Airco).

Based in Edgware, London, Cobham and his cameraman took aerial photographs of famous sites all over the country.

When the aerial photography company Aerofilms bought out Cobham’s employers, the de Havilland Hire Service agreed to do all the flying, but only on the condition that they take Alan Cobham as their pilot.
