In August 1945 Henshaw undertook a course to familiarise himself with the techniques of operating from an aircraft carrier at sea. Having completed the necessary dummy landings at East Haven Fleet Air Arm Station, he joined the Escort carrier HMS Premier where he carried out seven successful landings. In this painting, his Fairey Firefly turns onto final approach to the carrier’s tiny deck off the west coast of Scotland.
